Tasting Notes and Scores
All Rosso's top Barolo crus are in Serralunga and they are aged traditionally. The nose is lean, perky, and piquant, with cranberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied but vivacious, and the wine has fine clarity of fruit riding over the formidable tannins. It's almost out of balance yet it seems to work, thanks to the zest on the mid-palate and finish. Stylish and long. Drinking Window 2019 - 2034

Part of Barolo 2014: Vintage report and tasting notes
Decanter
Davide Rosso's 2014 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a delicious appellation-level wine. Deceptively medium in body, the 2014 packs quite a bit of punch, with plenty of Serralunga tannin enshrouding the fruit. Smoke, scorched earth, and licorice add to the wines virile expression of Nebbiolo. There is quite a bit to admire in this overachieving, village-level Barolo. Well done.

Starting with a slightly heavier footprint, the 2014 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a tightly knit wine that is packed carefully with wild berry, cassis and dried cranberry aromas. The fiber of the wine is slightly more robust compared to the annata 2014 Barolo that I tasted in this same flight. These wines by Giovanni Rosso are distinguished by the smooth consistency of their tannins.

Cherry, green tea, earth and tar flavors are wrapped up on a firm grip of tannins in this red. The tannins have the upper hand for now, yet there is ample fruit detail here. Balanced on the long finish. Best from 2021 through 2032. 4,166 cases made, 250 cases imported. — BS

Serralunga d’Alba. Cask sample. Fermented in concrete but without temperature control and with 20 days on the skins. Aged in large oak barrels.
Healthy mid ruby with orange tinges. Still a little reductive on the nose with subdued raspberry and cherry hints and a touch of oatmeal. Succulent raspberry palate that is super-elegant, transparent and with firm Serralunga tannins. Powerful structure yet lithe and vibrant on the finish. Captivating. Notes of raspberry and orange skins.
