Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2022 Côte-Rôtie is alluring and complex, with ripe black fruit, crushed violet, iodine, graphite and cedar notes alongside stemmy, spicy hints. Medium-bodied yet markedly concentrated, the 2022 shines with flawless elegance and an elongated, expansive finish. Sleek tannins underpin this expressive Côte-Rôtie. This is a fantastic Jamet not to be missed by anyone fortunate enough to latch into a bottle.

Vinified with 100% whole bunches, the 2022 Cote Rotie from Jean-Paul & Corinne Jamet reveals a dense, deep and complex bouquet of violets, mulberries, flowers, ripe dark wild berries and licorice, all accented by delicate spicy undertones. Medium to full-bodied, dense and structured, it's tense, with a fleshy core of fruit for a Côte Rôtie and a long, spicy and fruity finish. This vintage stands out with its vibrant, succulent acidity, lending an ethereal quality to the wine and making it less austere than previous vintages.

Cask samples tasted at the domaine. Sample 1 : Le Truchet – schist soils. An earthy nose with smoke and graphite. The palate has lots of freshness and a tight tannin structure. Firm and linear, grippy and a little wild as well. Tough and introverted at the moment. Sample 2 : Lesardes and others. Beautiful nose! Juicy and inviting, more seductive aromatically. Ripe and expansive palate with generous freshness, smoke and meaty notes as well. The tannins are ripe and present but still firm, peppery and rounded. Dark fruits on the palate with a graphite coolness. Sample 3 : Tartaras, Collet. A little backward at the moment, slight volatility. The palate is firm and very closed and tight right now. Dark fruits and taut mature but linear tannins. Sample 4 : Gerine. The nose is generous and violet led, rose and a slight herbal character – vibrant and expressive. The palate has the floral notes as well as a freshness and underpinned by bright and lively acidity and blue fruit, really fine and linear tannins. Lovely density and poise and such precision. Really long – superb. Sample 5 : Fongeant, Gerine. A smoked note on the nose, dark and spiced notes. Lots of dark fruits, fig and taut and fine tannins – gripping and weighty with grilled meat, graphite. Cool and firm with some powdery tannins. Sample 6 : Moutonnes, Leyat, Côte Boudin. An olive note as well as some floral character. Really generous mid palate. Weighty and rich as well as expansive and ripe palate, with firm tannins throughout. Sample 7 : Le Plomb, Fongeant . Graphite nose, as well as on the palate, stony and ripe and a subtle smoke note beneath. Bloody, steely and firm. Sample 8 : La Landonne. A finesse to the nose, dark fruits, spice and iron filings. The palate is austere and has some iron filings, blood and real bite. A smoke and gravel note – very tight and closed at the moment. (AC)
