The 2005 Dom Pérignon P2 is such a classy wine. Elegant, silky contours wrap around a core of apricot, citrus confit, white flowers and brioche. Strong toasty notes are front and center, and yet the 2005 remains very much a wine of restraint. The 2005 P2 is a terrific Champagne for drinking today. It does not quite have the stature of the very best years, but in exchange, it is wonderfully complete and satisfying at this stage.
