Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux 1er Cru is matured in one-third new oak with 30–40% whole bunch. It has a warm, inviting bouquet of quite plush red fruit plus a light marine scent in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, edgier than the Village Cru, with a spicier, black pepper and clove-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Good potential. Classy.

Corbeaux is next to the illustrious grand cru Mazis-Chambertin. 30% whole bunch and no new oak, in order to showcase the purity of the fruit. 800 bottles and 25 magnums made. Mid garnet. Heady mushrooms and violet nose. This is extraordinarily concentrated and tastes like a grand cru. Wow! Classic, top-quality red burgundy that's so vibrant, rich and yet elegant. Really rather thrilling. Perhaps the most exciting 2019 I have tasted in London. (JR)
