Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2021 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru seems to have a little whole cluster that imparts a touch of pepperiness to the brambly red fruit. With aeration, the oak component does impede and become too prominent. There is just a touch of volatile acidity so your appreciation will depend on your sensitivity. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, fine grip, quite linear but I appreciate the build and the broadness on the finish. Admirable focus, quite minerally and with decent length this is definitely one of the superior Volnay wines this vintage. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
