Tasting Notes and Scores
Aromas of cassis, cherries, sweet spices and vine smoke introduce the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1859, a medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy wine with sweet tannins and lively acids. More sensual and charming than the Ostrea, this bottling derives from old vines in lieu-dit Champerrier that the Trapet family acquired in 1859.

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée 1859 has dark plum and blackcurrant notes commingling with red fruit, although this feels just a little pushed in the winery, perhaps to compensate for the growing season. The palate is sweet and ripe with black cherries and mulberry fruit. Fleshy and velvety, just a little candied towards the finish, the winery has definitely shaped this Gevrey-Chambertin. As such, not a bad wine but maybe just missing a bit of soul and personality. Give it another couple of years as I can see the potential. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
