The 2011 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières is one of the more massive wines in this range. Rich, powerful and concentrated, the Folatières boasts considerable depth and intensity, with a sense of structure that is quite Pinot-inflected. Ample and broad, the 2011 needs time to fill out its broad shoulders. The 2011 finishes with impressive substance and stuffing. Sauzet's Folatières is mostly fruit from the upper part of En La Richarde. It is a rare 2011 that is going to require patience.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is a touch of reduction on the nose of Sauzet’s Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières 2011, but there is plenty of fruit concentration with scents of citrus lemon, apple blossom and granite. The palate is chewy on the entry, quite phenolic, with good acidity, but like Thierry Glantenay’s 2011, it is missing delineation and finesse on the finish.
