2013 Domaine Georges Mugneret Gibourg, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, Aux Chaignots

Good medium red. Sexy, complex aromas of ripe plum, redcurrant, cedar, spices and rose petal. Supple, plump, dry and saline; classically backward wine but with a surprisingly pliant texture for the year. Strong, almost peppery acidity is nicely buffered by intense red fruits. Finishes with sexy sweetness and length.

Plump, dark, sophisticated fruit – typical Nuits-Vosne hybrid style of Chaignots. Quite backward and disjointed at present, but the creamy texture and vibrant fruit will knit in time. A lot going on here – multilayered and precisely balanced. (AH)

Cask sample. Mid cherry. Sweet-fruited and a little spicy. Firm, savoury tannins. Lovely dry texture and dark, savoury character even though the fruit is alive and bright. Many-faceted and needs time. (JH)
