Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru lacks a little delineation on the nose, showing raspberry and crushed strawberry, bergamot and light tea leaf scents. It's just a little smudged and Grenache-like. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, lower acidity, and slightly drier in style. It is missing some finesse on the finish. This is another perplexing showing from the Domaine that showed so well from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

55-year-old vines; terre blanche et brune over clay-limestone, with limestone gravel underneath. Cask sample. Blood orange, iron and a meatier character opposite the Charmes. It’s no bruiser, but there is character and substance galore. Rich and invigorating; there a lot of tannin structure hidden in there too. (MH)
