The 2023 Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru is much fresher on the nose than the Premier Cru, lively with vivacious Morello cherry and raspberry scents plus a little more mineralité . The palate is balanced with a core of sweet red fruit, but the pH seems lower so that there is more tension and race on the finish. Though not long-term, this is a well-crafted, enjoyable Volnay.

Transparent crimson. Really interesting nose, with an additional savoury layer to the premier cru blend. And, gosh, some additional interest and depth. I could drink this tonight! Such energy and layers of woodland and greenery. Utterly satisfying today. This may be the best value …? (JR)
