Tasting Notes and Scores
Aromas of sweet red berries, peony and raw cocoa mingle with savory bass- notes of grilled meat and rich soil in a complex bouquet, introducing the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes, a medium to full-bodied, ample wine with excellent depth and dimension, a sappy core of fruit and a fine-grained, mineral finish.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru contains 25% whole bunch fruit this year. It has a clean, pure bouquet of raspberry and wild strawberry, the one-third new oak lending volume and presence. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. This feels well balanced and fresh in the mouth, but there is a sense of strictness and linearity on the finish. Fine.

Barrel sample. From 60-year-old vines, planted north–south, so they survive hot years well. 30% new oak, light but long toast. Mid cherry red. A real richness of ripe fruit on the nose here. Spiced red cherry. On the palate that same generosity and sweetness of fruit. The tannins are more rounded too and there’s greater fruit depth on the palate yet a dry finesse on the finish. Very different from Les Chabiots. (JH)
