2020 Domaine Michel Lafarge, Volnay Premier Cru, Les Mitans

The 2020 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has a slightly earthier bouquet than its siblings this year, a litle more introspective. The palate is more expressive with red berry fruit, allspice and a touch of dried orange rind. There is ample energy and plenty of structure on this Mitans with a tingle on the tongue after the wine has departed, not unlike Japanese shiso leaf. This should age wonderfully in bottle.

Opening in the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, rose petals and sweet soil tones, the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans is medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, concluding with a perfumed finish.

Cask sample. Mid ruby. Perfume and extra richness; round, sweet fruit. Classic and elegant. Florals and great length. (MH)
