Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2019 Pommard Rugiens-Bas 1er Cru has a powerful, oaky, modern, assertive bouquet with layers of toasty black fruit. It's Pinot Noir, but does not exude "Burgundy". The palate is chewy on the entry. This is a big-boned Pommard with lavish black cherry and blueberry fruit and a modern sheen thanks to the new oak, but it just seems bereft of personality. With time in bottle it just feels a bit saccharine. Is this a dropped catch from the talented Xavier Horiot? Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
