The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles St-Jacques 1er Cru is beautifully-defined on the nose with shimmering, brambly red fruit, sous-bois and light potpourri aromas - all very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, quite saline, nice grip, though overall this has a pleasing strictness that leaves you feeling that it will offer more, reveal its true self, with four to five years in bottle. Be patient.
