Tasting Notes and Scores
An ultra-elegant, reserved and exceptionally cool nose of airy red currant, wet stone and dried floral notes introduces textured and intensely mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a wonderful sense of underlying tension. This too possesses dense but strikingly fine tannins that coat the palate on the dusty, long and mildly austere finish. Lovely juice that is beautifully balanced. Drink 2024+.

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Le Poissenot is open and generous on the nose with lively redcurrant, raspberry and undergrowth scents. There is a candied note here, lending it femininity and personality. The palate has a gentle grip on the entry. There is fine structure here, an abiding symmetry in the mouth with a long and tender finish. I have been following the wines of Geantet-Pansiot for a number of years, since the domaine has a loyal following here in the UK. They have not been reviewed by this publication for three of four vintages, which is a pity because Vincent Geantet’s wines are very reliable and good value. I requested a visit to the domaine back in November, but the tardy malolactics meant that it was inopportune to do so, but I had the opportunity to taste some of their bottled 2012s in London. Importer: Kysela Pere et Fils, Winchester, VA; tel. (540) 722-9228 and through several importers in the UK.

Fabulous richness and fruit power on the nose, with a generous brush of tannin and good acidic structure. Flamboyant – violets, spice, earth. Punches above its weight. (RH)
