Tasting Notes and Scores
This is also discreet to the point of being all but mute and only aggressive swirling manages to liberate the cool aromas of citrus, green fruit, petrol and a broad array of typical Chablis elements. Here too there is excellent size, weight and concentration to the big-bodied flavors that possess an almost pungent salinity on the balanced, powerful and borderline painfully intense finale. This is seriously good stuff but note well that plenty of patience will be required. Drink 2026+.

The 2014 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru comes from south-facing vines. It has a crisp, slightly austere, stony bouquet that suggests more cellaring will be necessary compared to Bougros. The palate is fresh on the entry, very well defined with hints of orange sorbet and citrus fruit, a fine line of acidity and boundless energy toward the focused finish. This cocks a snook (sneers) at the Vaudésir at the moment. Superb.

Bright lemon-green. Highly complex nose melds white peach, lemon, flint and white pepper, along with an ineffable touch of brown spices. Very silky and rich but with lovely ripe framing acidity. Conveys a strong impression of saline dry extract along with an incredibly fine-grained texture. A wonderfully suave, seamless, weightless Valmur with superb mounting persistence.
