The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques unwinds in the glass with aromas of peonies, plums, orange rind, spices and petals. Medium-bodied, lively and supple, it's a bright, pretty wine with a saline, perfumed finish.

Some structure and concentration but still some seductive fruit, as in the village wine. Very perfumed with good balance. Even if youthful tannins are in evidence, there is plenty of fruit to counterbalance them. (JR)

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers high-toned, quite bold dark plummy fruit, but there is a lot of volatile acidity to contend with. The palate is sweet on the entry with saturated tannins, but there is almost a total absence of terroir expression, finesse or tension. This is not a correct bottle so I won't score this. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
