2020 Domaine des Croix, Beaune Premier Cru, Les Greves Rouge

The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves is spectacular, and it reveals just what this appellation and its best sites are capable of. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of wild berries, sweet spices, rose petals and blood orange, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and sumptuous, with a layered, multidimensional core of fruit that's girdled by velvety tannins and bright acids. Long and intense, it will merit a special effort to seek out.

The 2020 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru has 50% whole bunch. It has a more introverted bouquet and demands coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing light pencil box scents entwined with the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite mineral driven, the stems conspicuous towards the saline finish with a very marine-influenced aftertaste. Give this time in bottle because it's a peach.
