Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2019 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is limited to just one lonely barrel this year, including two-thirds whole bunch. It has a deep, broody bouquet of black currant and blueberry, crushed violets and iris flowers emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This is Leroux’s "biggest" cuvée in 2019, delivering mouth-lacquering tannins and enormous weight on a finish that goes on forever. It will need to be tamed with bottle age – 5 to 8 years, by my reckoning.

From the lower part of the vineyard. 50% whole bunch. One barrel. Racked two weeks ago without SO2. Barrel sample. Heady, seductive, glorious nose. Utterly smooth and savoury with a note of orange peel. Rich and yet lifted and polished. (JR)
