Tasting Notes and Scores
(50% vendange entier ): Bright red. Alluring nose combines raspberry, flowers, crushed rock and smoky minerality. Pleasingly pliant but juicy too, offering a knockout combination of fresh red fruits, thick texture and pungent minerality. Builds impressively on the long, juicy back end, which features serious but suave tannins. These vines come fom an old quarry on bedrock. The village of Gevrey-Chambertin was "a piece of cake" in 2015, according to Leroux, who noted that his previous vineyard source for Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois was sold.

The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru la Perriere has a winsome, very pure and elegant bouquet with pretty red cherry and strawberry scents, a hint of rose petal in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, gentle grip with good substance on the finish that still needs to absorb the oak. Give it a year in bottle and you'll have yourself a decent, if not startling Gevrey-Chambertin.

Heady nose with masses of fruit and appeal. Really rather gorgeous. Silky but with great fruit intensity and a savoury finish. Should be very rewarding. (JR)
