Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2019 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru was showing a bit of reduction on the nose compared to the other Grand Crus, which offers mainly black fruit with brown spices; the oak needs a few more weeks to fully assimilate. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, harmonious and silky in texture. It does not quite fan out as much as the Grands-Echézeaux by direct comparison, although it does feel very persistent. Give it 4–5 years in bottle.

Barrel sample. Deep crimson. Intense, dark fruit that puts the oak into the background. Terrific intensity on the palate, dark, savoury, charry but not at all over-oaked. Elegant tannins, extremely fine and deliciously dry. Immense length and refinement. (JH)
