The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques is a bit reduced, but that is not enough to obscure the wine’s explosive energy, drive and overall intensity. The 2017 naturally needs time to find its center of balance. There is plenty to look forward to, especially if the wine comes together a bit more fully. Hints of lavender, rose petal, spice and purplish fruit open up, but only with reluctance. Readers will have to be patient here.
