The 2022 Verso de Haut Batailley, taken mostly from the château’s young vines, shows the natural intensity of the year in its decidedly ripe profile. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice, leather, tobacco and chocolate are all amplified. This is a decidedly heady, almost exotic Verso, but it should be a crowd pleaser.

The 2022 Verso has a very opulent nose, one of the few that seems to show traits of some overripe fruit that makes it feels a bit Californian in style. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, sweet and quite candied, and plenty of cassis fruit, but it feels cloying on the finish.
