Tasting Notes and Scores
The brilliant 2006 Le Dome (94) offers plenty of cassis and camphor as well as a terrific texture and that almost surreal lightness that comes from the high percentage of Cabernet Franc and what is obviously a top-flight vineyard. This elegant offering is not as dense as the 2008, but it is capable of lasting 15 or more years. Drink 2016-2024.

Tasted at the château, the 2006 Le Dôme has retained an attractive bouquet with crushed violet and cold limestone scents percolating through the blackberry and boysenberry fruit. The palate is fresh on the entry with slightly coarse tannin, mulberry, red plum and Seville orange marmalade here, moderate depth with just a slightly abrupt, muscular finish. It has aged better than Les Asteries and I would be inclined to drink this over the next 5-7 years. Tasted March 2016. Drink 2016-2024.

Bright ruby. Aromas of black cherry, smoked meat and minerals. Lush, ripe and broad, with sappy, primary flavors of cherry, raspberry and minerals. Densely packed but not at all overly sweet despite its fruit intensity. Finishes with ripe, building tannins, very good breadth and a late note of licorice. This wine, made from a property next to Angelus, features 73% cabernet franc and 27% merlot.

Bright red-ruby. Aromas of blackberry, plum, licorice, violet, coffee and mocha; very cabernet franc. Lush, rich and fine-grained, with lovely inner-mouth spicy and floral lift. The most serious and concentrated of Jonathan Maltus's group of 2006s, this should really be held for at least a few years. The sweet finishing flavors dust the palate.

A very attractive wine, with berry, chocolate and light toasty oak on the nose and palate. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a medium, caressing finish. Very pretty, if young. Best after 2013.

Thick and sweet on the nose with very gentle palate entry. Quite alcoholic – certainly tastes like the hot vintage they vinified it as. Sweet and treacley – very syrupy and opulent. (JR)
